To learn of a Nikolayeva Bach concerto recording that I did not know existed is a happy day indeed, so thanks very much for this post. Kondrashin sets a slower tempo than Sondeckis in every movement, especially so in the larghetto, which, at more than a minute slower, allows both the orchestra and soloist to wring even more pathos out of the music. Very moving indeed.

Kondrashin was fantastic on Shostakovich, of course. Often great on Mahler and good to great on Beethoven. He should have stayed away from Bach. This isn't quite as "romanticized" as other recording he has of this concerto, but ... I'll pass.
