I often ponder the days of mythical imaginations, which clearly inspired some epic writings, and it seems almost sacrilegious to dampen this legend born from a poem, but sadly, it’s apparently not 1, 300 years old, and has already been replaced several times before. In fact according to one historian, the original probably only dates back to 1780, and was installed in a bid to draw tourists.
So although it’s “a copy of a copy of a copy” the mayor of Rocamadour, Dominique Lenfant, told the New York Times,  “the important thing to understand, is that it is an emblem of our heritage in Rocamadour, and that it is no longer there.”
Moving on to Angel theories, maybe it was one connected to providing abundances for local blacksmiths, as 4 have come forward to offer their services to forge a new Durandal.😁
That aside, Rocamadour was voted France’s favourite village in 2016, and is also famed for its excellent goat’s cheese.
