I love the song but while I listened, I wondered: 'What the heck is a Wellerman?" I did some research:

“Wellerman” refers to a supply ship from the "Weller Bros", who founded a whaling station (I think in New Zealand). When a Wellerman went out to meet a whaling ship, it meant that the sailors would be given new supplies, like "sugar" and "tea". The sailors looked forward to this so much they wrote a song.
