What about the news story where Phuket yacht Phoenix capsized where 47 Chinese tourists drowned? There was footage of passengers who looked Malay hanging onto another boat that capsized in the same storm. Why is it that there is no interest in covering this important regional story? Especially when so many Singaporeans and Malaysians also visit Phuket every year? No interest in reporting the fact that those boats went out despite the Meteorological report reporting extreme weather? Or whether did the authorities indeed report extreme weather? That most drowned because the captain didn’t let them leave the Phoenix on time. That the captain of Phoenix is alive, despite 47 of the passengers drowned? That they were stuck in the lower cabin and wearing life vests which caused them to float to the ceiling and hence unable to swim out? That they weren’t given true inflatable sea life vests that would have enabled them to swim out and inflate it later on the surface. That search and recovery is still underway for the bodies.
