Many crochet blanket borders start with a round of single crochet stitches. With a granny stripe blanket though, it can be really hard to see where to work the single crochets, and to keep them even. Start instead with a round of granny stitch clusters (clusters of 3 double crochets), working them into the obvious gaps along the edge, with 3DC, CH2, 3DC in the corners. Then, for your next round you can just work one single crochet in each stitch, with 2SC, CH2, 2SC in each corner. Easy!
