Ladybugs are also known as ladybirds and lady beetles. Technically all these commons names are correct, though if you want to be the most accurate then "lady beetle" is your best bet as this common name most accurately describes this insects taxonomic place. Lady beetles are typically dome shaped with bright colors to warn predators of their unpleasant taste. This is also known as 'aposematic coloration'. Lady beetles are often beloved by people as they are used in agriculture to biologically control pests such as aphids. Lady beetles love to eat plant-harming aphids which can be a big win for farmers and gardeners alike. Lady beetles are cosmopolitan and can be found living just about anywhere there is an adequate supply of food.

Scientific Name: Family - Coccinellidae
Range: worldwide (though not in Antarctica)
Size: up to 10mm (0.4in)
Diet: aphids, scale insects, insect larvae, also plants in some species
Lifespan: about 1 year

They're pretty clever. One got in my car and I rolled the window down to let it out but it held on to the edge and waited until stopped before taking off.

🐞🐞🐞 Love them, they often come into my house, sometimes in crowds. They drink from the steam which condenses on the tile in the bathroom and they seem to eat dustmites.🐞🐞🐞🥰

Great! I've been collecting ladybugs at recess at school and we learned about them in library!

I love ladybugs, but I must admit that all insects including ladybugs look ridiculously creepy when they lift their shell and start to fly

I study entomology, and even I find it funny when people correct you for saying "ladybug, " saying "But it's not a TRUE bug!" Well, if I want to refer to true bugs, I will use the term "true bugs, " lol. Until then, most people know that by "bug, " you mean "any arthropod." Of course, in scientific papers and discussions, I'll only say 'bug' when referring to true bugs. But in normal day-to-day conversation, I think it's silly to be a stickler about scientifically-accurate terms. People know what you mean when you say 'ladybug.' :P

Each year when spring is near, I find a lot of them on the inside of my bathroom window, which is facing to the west. Not sure how they all get in because I have a mosquito net in the window and it's intact. And as it is still too cold outside at night, I hate to let them out. But not letting them out would also kill them by dehydration. Already tried to offer them some water and sugar, but they refuse to take it.

Have you done a video on what is a true bug? I always thought the bug was just a generic term.
Thanks for the video.

I have loved Ladybugs since I was a little girl. I always knew that they ate aphids; However, you informed me of something I didn't know; That they eat mites, (Red Spider Mites?) and Scale Insects, which are also very damaging to crops. So, even though you also informed us that imported Ladybugs to control pests for Organic Farming, compete with the local, Native Species; I believe that that is better than continuing the vast use of Toxic Chemical Pesticides which are getting into the Food Chain and causing Bio-Diversity Collapse, as well as killing our Natural Pollinators, (including the Honey Bee) and poisoning our own Human Bodies!

They can't taste that bad, I can't stop my dog from eating them.

At one point, a mother whose son had severe disability at the age of two was cleaning the bathroom when she saw a number of ladybugs. Instead of trying to get rid of them, she found that she could depend on them when everything with the boy was out of control. She kept them alive. When, after a few weeks, her son died, and she came back home from the funeral, she saw that the entire wall of her house was almost completely covered in thousands of 🐞! She took it as a sign from both her son and God!

Great video guys! I remember being scandalised hearing of these ladies insatiable appetite for the wee Aphids, they look so innocent.🐞 Not sure if you spotted my request for a "Bloodsucker" video, I believe their actual name is Clover Mites. Mite as well ask one more time. Keep up the good work.💚☘
