Richard Strauss: ARABELLA

On the surface, a manageable comedy plot with Viennese waltzes and late romantic wall of sound, but at a closer distance, an entertaining as well as multi-layered dismantling of values and binary role models.

Director Tobias Kratzer pounces on Richard Strauss’s ARABELLA with relish and finds each character interesting. In his observation, as they all experience processes of liberation in their own special way.
