This video has some extremely good advice. The speaker has developed quite an excellent pronunciation considering the vastly different sound repartoire that his native Vietnamese has. Most of his words bear no traces of it, though. What gave him away, though, is that I couldn't hear an [n] or a [d] whenever he said "sounds". I also heard a dấu sắc here and there, particularly in the word "just" alongside of an omission of [s] which is very typical. Finally, and this has always fascinated me, Vietnamese people always assume a Deep South American accent when saying the word "time." Besides these points, the speaker's pronuncation is virtually perfect. I taught English in Vietnam for a year as a T.A., and I found it almost impossible to get students to abandon the ridiculous pronunciation guidelines that they had been receiving from their teachers. As a result, only very few of them could produce English words remotly intelligibly. All they did was to transcribe English words into Vietnamese script - which is asinine and impossible. The students never pronounced the final sounds of words, let alone consonant clusters. "Reserved" came out as "re-zir" and they just wouldn't imitate my correct pronunciation - I assume for fear of being disrespectful towards their teacher who previously taught them this nonsense. It was a very frustrating time. I wish any one of my students' pronunciation had been as good as this speaker's.

heres a few little trap for english learners:
1. some dictionary websites will write incorrect pronounciations [to "preserve" how people spoke like 100 years ago]
2. don't learn the difference between long and shot /i/ by word fill, letter l will cause a little schwah to appear before it, and not all places, and this will add difficulty. Same for words full and fool. I'd recommend fit vs feet/feat and lift vs leaf

vowels are the hardest tbh, but they help a lot.

This was wonderful. You would have laughed out loud watching me learn how to pronounce Mandarin, and I was better than most in the class. Our poor professor; I thought she must go home at night and cry her eyes out. I wish I'd known of your techniques a long time ago.

My grandmother (Spanish) used to "wash" television. :)
