Music in the barn. Turn music on in the barn when milking. Soon, she’ll know to come to the barn on her own when you turn the music on. Cows love music. My grandfather did this.

What a wonderful surprise! She is adorable! Did you know that in other countries the person that is milking rests their head against the cow for more stability. The closer you are the less likely they will kick you. Enjoy your wonderful adventure and thank you for sharing.

Never a dull moment on a farm. Also, you wear your babies all the time, why wouldn’t she want hers with her too?? 😂

I think it’s kinda cute that you and your cow could be pregnant together for a little while 💕

You did an excellent job of explaining the "process". I think even people not familiar with farm life will understand a bit better.

Describing the preg check made me laugh. I work in computers and during college I did IT for the vet school - first time I saw a cow getting a preg check was quite eye opening 😂

Thank you for commenting that it took time for you to get a cow. I want one but it's going to take a few years for me as well. I have to find some solace in patience as I have too many other things to focus on at this time.

Haha, you are stinkin' FEARLESS Lisa! I loved this! The cats are having a good time too, all that fresh milk to stick their whiskers in... now I want a cow. :)

The calf has a cute loppy gait appearance like a character in the Star Wars galactic bar scene. Beautiful calf. Love her ears.

Thank you for inspiring me to finally just take the first step of faith and starting my new podcast. :) I finally just uploaded Episode 01 and I am encouraged. I love listening to your videos in the background when I cook and clean and watch my kids, etc. :) God bless you and your family. :)

So neat!! And no, I’m not a farm person, but I read a lot of James Herriot so I’m not squeamish 😄 He was always arm deep in a cow…
Congrats on a healthy baby 🐮 ❤️

Really enjoyed learning about how things progressed with the calf..boy, she wants that baby near her. I had to laugh when I saw that drainage hole in the barn..we have one in our 200 yr old house cellar..so no water gathers in basement…old-timers really knew what they were doing..👍..Liz xxo

P.S. If you're going to be the sole milker (especially when your baby gets here), it's nice to have a small machine to milk out quickly within a few minutes. Handmilking is quaint and romatical (grin), but when the honeymoon phase is over, sometimes it's nice just to have a machine, especially when you're milking twice a day. Now you get the joy of experimenting with homemade dairy recipes...butter, cheeses, yogurt, etc. Colostrum cubes are great in smoothies. Good luck, have fun and God bless! :)

It’s like watching a movie of my life haha.. we got a Jersey 5 months ago and she had her calf July 2nd. I had never milked a cow before.. just goats. My calf is only nursing on the front 2 teets.. so I just milk her back teets for now. We will start separating the calf at 2 week post birth (this Friday night will be the first night). What I have found to be helpful with milking is to milk into a quart mason jar close to the teet (one teet at a time) and dump the quart jar into a half gallon or gallon jar with a cover to protect from bad bacteria. That way I don’t have to worry about her kicking the bucket over or poop/pee splattering in it. We will also calf share to help with flexibility in our schedule :) it was nice to see someone else experiencing the same thing I am right now. Excited to see what you plan on doing with all the milk! I have made yogurt and cheese so far :)
