I love plotting videos esp 3 Act Structure. In my opinion, Act 2 is much more important than the rest. Act 1 is so easy because it's fresh and exciting and meant to be a little confusing. Act 3 can be satisfactory or unsatisfactory as a resolution, but because of the climax, it's bound to be strong enough. Act 2 is the entire actual story and the weakest for most people. Act 2 is also where most readers DNF so it's important to have a strong idea for the middle so that doesn't happen. It's the entire character arc, all the themes, all the actual substance.

I used to think that act 2 was the least interesting part of the story, until a teacher once taught me: the second act is what your story is /about/. It is the meat of the idea. And at the end of act 2, your main tension should be resolved. 

In "Cinderella", the main tension is: will Cinderella get to go to the ball and meet the prince? The answer is yes - she meets him, but her abrupt exit spurs act 3.

In "Star Wars: A New Hope", the main tension is: will Luke rescue Princess Leia? The answer is yes - but there is still a Death Star to deal with, which is what act 3 is about.

In "The Incredibles", the main tension is: will the Parr family come together again? The answer is yes - but now they have to work together to defeat a giant robot (act 3).

Hey! Can you imagine I wrote a whole novel, without any structure or planning. It's a whole fantasy... I'm a pantser. I have an idea of what will happen in the end, and then I write down what COULD occur in the beginning and middle and then fill them up. And ofcourse, I had an IDEA of the 3 act structure and I just began writing and then I finished. I'm so happy 😂. Though thank you for the video.

And yes, I dont really think much about the middle (though it has to be the longest)

And what I did I sincerely wrote notes about the first act and the last (Bullet points of my ideas)

And then I began the book... its the first book of the duology. I cant wait to publish it.

I don't write plot based books, I'm more of a character guy. Though ofcourse the plot and story have to follow.

Whether I'm a plotter or pantser varies according to the project I'm working on. Sometimes I don't know ANYTHING about the story before I start writing it, while other times I need to know EXACTLY what happens in every chapter down to dialogue and scenes. Idk if it's just me but that's the way my messed up brain works 😅 But for my plotting projects I always use the 3 Act Structure, so I'm so happy that my favorite authortuber finally made a video about it! ❤

Okay i get so distracted and go off on tangents when writing even when i have this structure. As a pantser i dont usually stick to this but it is still useful and gives me an idea of where my story is going. How do you stay focused on your stories?? And stay on topic without the story feeling too far askew from original plan?? Is it just practice or lots of editing??? Im broken need help bahahaha!!!

I also highly recommend checking out "Save the Cat! Writes a Novel" by Jessica Brody. It's an amazing writing craft book that further breaks down three act structure into plot beats.
