Lyrics:
My girl, my girl, don't lie to me
Tell me where did you sleep last night

In the pines, in the pines
Where the sun don't ever shine
I would shiver the whole night through

My girl, my girl, where will you go
I'm going where the cold wind blows

In the pines, in the pines
Where the sun don't ever shine
I would shiver the whole night through

Her husband, was a hard working man
Just about a mile from here
His head was found in a driving wheel
But his body never was found

My girl, my girl, don't lie to me
Tell me where did you sleep last night

In the pines, in the pines
Where the sun don't ever shine
I would shiver the whole night through

My girl, my girl, where will you go
I'm going where the cold wind blows

In the pines, in the pines
Where the sun don't ever shine
I would shiver the whole night through

My girl, my girl, don't lie to me
Tell me where did you sleep last night

In the pines, in the pines
Where the sun don't ever shine
I would shiver the whole night through

My girl, my girl, where will you go
I'm going where the cold wind blows

In the pines, in the pines
Where the sun don't ever shine
I would shiver the whole night through.

This old song, with various titles and lyrics, is terribly underrated IMO and can have varied meanings to us as individuals, especially to those of us who have lost a Loved one. Here is my own rendering of the Nirvana lyrics. Thank you, Nick, Kurt, Dave, all.

[Intro]

My girl, my girl
Don’t lie to me
Tell me where did you sleep last night
In the pines, in the pines
Where the sun don’t ever shine
I would shiver the whole night thru

My girl, my girl
Where will you go
I’m goin where the cold wind blows
In the pines, in the pines
Where the sun don’t ever shine
I would shiver the whole night thru

Her husband was a hard-workin man
Just about a mile from here
His head was found in a drivin wheel
But his body never was found

My girl, my girl
Don’t lie to me
Tell me where did you sleep last night
In the pines, in the pines
Where the sun don’t ever shine
I would shiver the whole night thru

[Bridge]

My girl, my girl
Where will you go
I’m goin where the cold wind blows
In the pines, in the pines
Where the sun don’t ever shine
I would shiver the whole night thru

My girl! My girl!
Don’t lie to me!
Tell me where did you sleep last night!
In the pines, in the pines
Where the sun don’t ever shine
I would shiver the whole night thru

My girl, my girl!
Where will you go
I’m goin where the cold wind blows
In the pines
The pines
Sun
Shine
I shiver
Whoa, oh [sigh]
Night thru

[Outro]

This is my favorite Nirvana song. Dolly Parton sang this as well.

I interpret the story in this song as being:
The man narrating killed the man his girlfriend cheated on him with.

2025 Not the most notable. IMO The most notable is Bill Monroe and the Bluegrass Boys.
