The first day of Russian President Vladimir Putin's visit to Beijing ended with he and Chinese President Xi Jinping enjoying a traditional tea drinking ceremony on Thursday.

At the conclusion of a protocol-laden schedule, the two leaders embraced and shook hands before parting ways.

Putin’s trip – his first abroad since reelection – is the latest show of unity between Beijing and Moscow.
