Here is the latest news. I bought this 2001 Honda Civic LX from a close friend and it needed some work. The timing belt jumped one tooth and the crankshaft position sensor stopped working.

After getting it back on the road, I decided to make a video about the beauty of having a cheap daily driver car.

No clickbait thumb. Casual conversation and rational, on-topic thoughts and opinions.
I skipped many results for my beater car search to find this video. Thanks.

I can't agree more. I have a 2005 Honda Odyssey which we got new. It is so darn reliable that I never felt the need to get rid of it. We got it when we were expecting our son and he is driving it now. We also have a 2009 Toyota Camry. These cars are so dependable and inexpensive to maintain, I would never think to drop big money or go into debt for a new car.

All I drive is beaters why cause if I had a new car I’d be scared to take it out cause you worry about something happing to it. Cause we all know things new only last like an hour before it’s not new anymore. That’s being little extreme but you get it. A beater let’s you relax a bit and enjoy the car

I'll be driving my 2016 Civic way past "beater" age. I bought it brand new in Oct 2016 and put in about 53.5K miles.

I intended to buy a beater car as my second vehicle, ended up getting a 2008 Lexus IS250 in superb condition. I guess that’s not so much a beater or maybe it can be, but a luxury one I suppose. Anyhow even if a car is older, if it was taken care of and well maintained, you could have that thing for a while. I also like having a second car as I sometimes to Uber and Doordash on my main 2018 Toyota Corolla. So it’s nice to have a car on the side to drive as another option.

I recently bought an s2000, and thought about selling my 07 Civic EX (154k miles) but it’s probably best to keep it as as daily.

Yep. It is a pain searching for how you are going to get around. Have a Golf r and bought an old civic. That civic is a great car. It's available to any of my family members if their car has to be in the shop.

That's why I drive a beater. It give me a piece of mind. It's not pretty looking but then again it don't need to be that's what the other car is for.

That, and I’ve learned that car payments suck and are completely unnecessary.

After having an old Saab and Mercedes wrecked by bad luck, I gave up on project cars, and only buy beater cars now. You are right, they take the worry away! My 03 Vibe got totalled in a flash flood, but hey, it still runs😃And my 06 Corolla looks horrible😱but it runs great😊

I heard if you have a beater for your primary vehicle and your sports as a garage kept or weekend car, insurance is way cheaper. Can anyone confirm this for me?
