Day 2: Trial for Strongsville teen, Mackenzie Shirilla, charged with murder in deadly crash

The trial for a Strongsville teen accused of murder following a deadly crash that occurred last July is underway.

Mackenzie Shirilla, 18, faces multiple charges – including murder, felonious assault and aggravated vehicle homicide – in connection with a deadly crash that killed two people in July of 2022.

Strongsville police say the crash happened at 6:15 a.m. on Sunday, July 31, 2022, near the intersection of Progress and Alameda. Upon their arrival, officers say they located a Toyota Camry “with severe damage and full airbag deployments.”

All three occupants inside the vehicle – including Shirilla – were unconscious, not breathing and trapped inside the vehicle. 19-year-old Davion Flanagan and 20-year-old Dominic Russo were both pronounced dead at the scene.

Shirilla, who was 17 years old at the time of the crash, was taken to the hospital via Metro Life Flight. She was arrested months later in November.

Monday, Shirilla appeared in court with her right arm wrapped in a sling.

I was witnessed to a crash in my street. A teenager who had just got a new car bought by his dad pressed the accelerator instead of the break and smashed into the car in front writing it off. I think they likely explanation more likely than a suicide mission is that she pressed the wrong pedal.

I also have a friend who was driving in a car towards the toll and when partner pressed is foot on the break nothing happened.. they crashed into the cart in front at 50 miles an hour. Luckily they both lived to tell the tail. Why were these alternative explanations not investigated

that video should not have been use. it was week you could say years ago it does not say anything just another day. you can prove murder just because a teenager wants to control a man. i think all teens have said or did the same thing day in and day out. let her live with a crash it will be hard enough you cant prove murder you have to prove that means without any doubt a video week prior means nothing in a murder trial. you could also say she was a poor driver shes not the only shitty driver look around everyone has crashed a car at some point. your may not have been able to go over 80 in your ford pinto or your life couldve been different. can i have any real solid in your face 100% PROOF. oh its the justice system its how you feel

If I can be honest, if they were all drinking for a while...and THEN smoked pot right before or during the drive after being heavily intoxicated, it is extremely possible she experienced getting cross-faded, which can make someone extremely ill and black out within minutes. It was probably an accident, and not a murder. That's why it's illegal to smoke weed and drive because if you're drinking, then driving, then smoking - you'll get cross-faded and be at a super high chance of crashing a vehicle. Getting stoned mellows people out. You don't black out from it unless you've already been drinking or if it's laced with something.

She might have been saying that she wanted to die AFTER the crash. So far i havent seen any proof that this was intentional.
