As a Dane I never really understood cricket untill I moved to London in 1991, and only fully appreciated it thanks to Shane Warne and that generation of cricketers. Tear or two or three to the eye. RIP you GREAT!

Shane’s death proves the saying “only the good die young!” We all knew he was a tough & brilliant cricketer. But so many stories about what a great guy he was. He was the rockstar of cricket for sure!

From Perth WA
Graham Gooch
Great Batsman
Great Captain
Absolute Gentleman and sportsman
Fitting that he has given the most eloquent tribute to S Warne that I've heard to this date.
Update 5 days later:
Jus belatedly heard Nasser Hussein's tribute/comments which was at least on a par. Two English captains, champion cricketers and fine men. So sincere.

From one advanced hair studio ambassador to another. Thankyou Graham for your very gracious tribute, you've outshone the commentators down here that I've heard so far with those clear headed and beautiful recollections. Its obvious to me why he would call you Mr Gooch.

When the world's greatest living sportsman dies so young and so suddenly it's a terrible terrible shock. RIP to the brilliant, unique Shane.

I remember Gooch taking on Warne in 93 when the rest of the England team looked totally at odds, good battle.

I don't watch cricket. Don't understand cricket. Will never be a fan of cricket. BUT I've watched Shane Warne's bowl many times on YouTube. It's just too ridiculous how he can manipulate the ball. That zigzag ball was out of this world. RIP Mr Warne.

I came home, the Mrs just said 'Shane Warnes died!!'

I teared up. Always loved Shane. He lived here in Brighton half the year. Obviously captained Hampshire. A great Australian Cricketer. A great Cricketer. A great human.

Just a legend. Shane Warne. An absolute Assassin on the pitch. But the kindest sweetest guy off it. He tried to help cricketers from the Captain of England, Australia or India to the lowliest club cricketer he met in an airport. Always happy with those big green eyes glinting at the camera, and his huge Hollywood white smile. What a ripper. They broke the mold when they made him. There really was, only one Shane Warne.
