The absolute gall! The unmitigated nerve! The honor of the Donoghues has now been challenged!

I wish I still had all of Salinger ahead of me. He has brought me such joy and sorrow. After you read Catcher make sure you read his short stories. All human life is there.

Fabulous haul. Love Graham Green and Umberto Eco. I bought Norton Anthology of Poetry and Norton’s PostmodernAmerican Poetry and I hold you and Pat wholly responsible 😂😂

I definitely understand feeling the need to maybe put a cap on buying books, I've been feeling that it's maybe time for me to do something like that. I've been having to move books around, off the couch to the table, then off the table, then some are in the floor, double shelved, stacked up, starting to really pile up, but I didn't notice until it became a daily issue.

I recently started my own Booktube channel, and already in only nine days two of my videos have been book hauls, and it's helped me start seeing my habit from a new perspective. The trouble is that where I live used books are abundant, cheap and near to me, and I have pretty wide interests, so it's very easy to go overboard.

I've thought about joining CriminOlly in his next hundred book challenge, but then of course Steve Donoghue suggests that what a person ought to do is read forty percent of their collection, and get rid of, I think, ten percent, but for me that would take several years, and I don't think I have the iron will of Michael K. Vaughan with his 500 book challenge.

(ed: I realized maybe it might look like I'm shilling for my channel, I didn't mean it to seem that way. I enjoyed your video, and your comments on having too many books really touched on what I've been thinking about a lot recently)

A Single Man, Isherwood, is really great. I did a review of that last year. And this year I read The Berlin Stories, which was somewhat autobiographical, and really a unique experience of Berlin in the 30's leading up to the war. Isherwood is so sadly neglected, I hope you enjoy that one!

I love a good short story anthology as a way of trying authors you haven’t read before and discovering hidden gems. I predict you will love Tokarczuk and the Wolf Hall Trilogy. It did make me laugh when people were doing that 50/100 book buying ban in that they bought so many books directly before and directly after, I’m not sure it made much difference 😉 I see from the comments that Jasmine is a good sport about your book hauls 😉 so you’re lucky but I think it’s when you start to actually run out of room, you need to get serious about cutting down! 😉

I enjoy Everyman’s Library’s “Pocket Poets” anthologies — I’ve steered clear of those containing prose. But that one you picked up is enticing. I however need to slow my incoming books.

I never knew Ashbury translated. Rimbaud sounds good — I look forward to hearing about it if you get to it.

I have Bring Up The Bodies in paperback but the other two in hardback, you are in for a real treat with those. I really like Graham Greene but haven't read that one. I too need to cut down on the hauls now 😂

This was fun, impressive stack 😁 Solenoid is an interesting read for sure. Yes, I haven't yet read Flights but the Chopin heart is a true story, he wanted to have his heart brought to Poland after death, so it was smuggled to Warsaw, it currently is in a church in Warsaw near the Old Town :) I remember liking Catcher in the Rye, always meant to try his other books.

My heart leapt up when you started speaking about Salinger! And yes, Christmas time is a perfect time to read it as it takes place during three days in New York City prior to the Christmas break from school. You are absolutely on target in your sensing Holden’s humor. He’s very funny and quite cynical….and also suffering terribly in ways he struggles to articulate. I can’t wait to hear your thoughts.

The Hilary Mantel books! What a wonderful find. This is an incredible book haul. Enjoy!

Oh the short stories about books/libraries is something I've got to have. Thanks for pointing this one out, Aaron!

The look of delight on your face as you share your new finds. 😊 Coincidentally, as I watch this, I have 20 pages left to go in The Heart of the Matter. My fourth Greene, and I’ve really enjoyed it. A Single Man is also quite good. I think you’ll find both reads time well spent.
