Completely shocked at the news. Didn't believe at first. I've been telling people about Mark because I was looking forward to more people following his journey. I felt like he deserved more subs and views. My condolences to all that knew him personally. You all were very lucky to have known him. I never did, yet I still write this in tears. RIP Mark Baumer and may we continue to protect our planet.

I think of Mark pretty regularly. I always think about how he was walking barefoot in the snow. I think I could totally do that but probably not. You’re missed Mark. Hope your parents family and friends are hanging in there ❤️

People with nothing to show or offer take to social media platforms and run down the work of people who accomplished more in their brief 33 year period than haters will ever approach, fractionally. Even better, they do it anonymously, demonstrating that they're cowards.

A professor who was aware of Mark's work and knew him firsthand shared this with me recently, about Mark's prolific content, and the impact of his work on other writers/poets.

A Russian literary critic, Victor Shklovsky -- in his essay, Art as Device, argues for the idea that art's goal is to make the reader/viewer defamiliarized -- to make that which is taken for granted noticed as though for the first time. This seemed at the core of Mark's practice, along with, I think, an abiding sense of joy.

As Mark's father, I've seen the beautiful comments about my son, but also the vitriol and hatred of people who present as disturbed: I mean, who gloats and takes pleasure at another human's death, especially if you possess the ability to empathize with the loved ones and others left behind who cared about Mark and his well-being?

Go back to your pathetic lives of accomplishing little or nothing. No one's going to write about you, study your work (other than in works devoted to pathology), or celebrate your legacy. Mark, however, will live on forever in the lives of those of us that he touched and challenged with his very personal and caring way of living his life.

It's so sad that some people feel the need to insult him and his life purpose just after he passed. Reminds me of how humans can be so cruel. He will be missed.
RIP Mark. Thank you.

RIP MARK
May your spirit live on forever through all of us in everything we do
I am incredibly sad that you are gone
and that we will not have Day 101 or Day 102
And that you will never make it Barefoot Across America
You tried because you didn't know what else to do
and it killed you
Everyone should watch all 100 videos you made in order like I did
I hope you felt no pain
I hope you knew we loved you
I hope you knew we were with you the entire way
Why did you try to walk Barefoot Across Ohio in the Winter?
Did you know it would kill you?
Did you want it to kill you?
How can we walk without you?
with shoes
Because Mark didn't need shoes
He was walking Barefoot Across America

Rest in peace. I only came to know about you after your death but I still have a lot of respect for your ideals and for what you did in support of them.

Mark was the sort of American Hero that truly matters and should be listened to. We need to emulate him more, and reject the false trappings of money and power. A person's worth can't be measured by physical assets, but what they carry in their heart. God bless you, Mark. You were an inspiration to many.

It's so sad people have to come here and piss on a guys grave. However misguided or not, he was trying to do something positive. Trying to help. Doing his own thing. There will come a time when all of your negativity comes back to haunt you. Just give it some use your hate to console yourself when you or someone you loves suffers a tragedy and others mock and laugh at it.

PS: Don't waste your breath...actually breath is wrong because none of you would actually speak this garbage...Don't waste you keystrokes replying. RIP Mark
