Fresh or Frozen Food? (Does it Matter?)

Fresh, canned or frozen?

Fresh produce is more nutritious than canned or frozen. Let’s talk about why this is not true!

Frozen or canned produce is often actually picked at the peak of ripeness and then preserved through the canning or freezing process.

Canning and freezing may actually preserve the nutrient value and even increase the availability of some nutrients to the body.

This means it can actually be more micronutrient rich than some of the fresh produce we buy.

Sometimes we get fruit or veggies that are overly ripe or not yet ripe and picked prematurely due to long travel times and farmers not wanting the produce to go bad.

This can lead to us consuming fresh produce we think is better for us that is actually more deficient in the nutrients we need.

Don’t fear buying frozen or canned fruits and veggies. Just focus on getting all natural variations that don’t have added ingredients or added sugars.

I'm really glad you did this video because it is important. One thing that I would add though is that a LOT of canned vegetables have added sodium. That is not always great for people with hypertension as that hidden sodium can add up really fast.

Fresh tastes better which makes me more likely to eat them.

We have a local “farm” near us and when they have fresh spinach and broccoli, I struggle with grocery store versions when the farm is out because the quality difference is great.

Oh boy. While this information may be reasonable for frozen to fresh comparisons, canned food is absolutely less nutritious, necessarily, than it's fresh counter parts. Canning is a process that requires heat. Heat high enough to kill bacterias and inactivate enzymes that might otherwise rot the food...this heat is certainly high enough to start the process of chemical change that occurs in ANYTHING when enough heat is applied. Cooking food necessarily depletes nutrient content in almost everything and in cases where heat actually brings out desired nutrient-content doing so comes at the cost of other nutrients and minerals. Please please please don't think eating canned foods is comparable to eating fresh ones.

Today I learned… plus I like some canned veggies better like beets and spinach and I have tried to force myself to eat fresh before thinking the nutritional value was greater. Thanks for the info

Not buying this. Fresh wins in taste. Also, feels better to eat fresh and natural rather than frozen or canned.
