OP-XY vs OP-Z: Samplers & Storage

I've gotten a lot of questions about how XY and Z compare. There's too much to cover in one video so I'm breaking the comparison down into smaller parts. This video focuses on storage capacity and sample engines.

The short version is that OP-Z is always faster, more lightweight, and more restrictive. OP-XY is deeper and more customizable every step of the way, but that also means you need to make more decisions, wait for things to load sometimes, etc.

Chapters:
0:00 Intro & broad comparison
1:05 Storage comparison
1:42 Drum sampler comparison
6:10 Using the XY's sample library
7:11 Synth sampler comparison
8:31 OP-XY multisampler engine

Wow! An OP-XY video without loads of mindless bleating about the price in the comments. Just folks actually interested to understand more about the product. Hallelujah! 🙏

Thanks, it's becoming very clear now, understanding where they're coming from (several bits in the studio...particularly my trusty Octatrack...are breaking into coldsweats). Spent the evening with my trusty Op-Z guaging if a hulk-mode version of it will work for my usecase...but your vids have been immensely helpful

I wish they will add sample per key on the op-1f. I never understood why that wasn’t an option.

One of the things I found that works is if you set up presets and duplicate the projects
Name it and duplicate based on what you’re using it for before making the beats

Awesome videos! Could you get into the MIDI capabilities a bit more? Especially sequencing multiple pieces of external gear via MIDI over multiple channels. Thanks!

Thank you but i can not find the bit and sample rate?

Good video, seems like a oversight that the drum sampler can’t split up a sample by transients something the Z, op1 and the two KO’s all can. Will hopefully get patched

The sampler on the XY is bonkers.
I discovered that you can use the filter and fx on a drum kit and resample a drum one shot into itself then reset fx.

Question: on multi sampler if you sample every 4th key does it pitch the sample in between keys or does it leave blanks? I mean… can you just sample just octaves for instance?

I wish someone would record vocals using the sampler

So after reading the manual, if im not mistaken, you can route incoming audio through the Tape module for realtime glitching of live incoming audio? Can Tape output be sampled to capture all the cool glitch edits?

Is there a granular synthesis engine or granular processing?

what's that white vertical line on the bottom between the "ramp down" and "random" button? is it just a visual design, with no functional purpose?

Great video. What's the polyphony when playing samples?

Is there a reverse sample function? Thanks for these videos!

Thanks for makings these videos ! Can you tell me if the OP-XY could sequence multiple midi tracks on an external synth (like the Digitone II), or you can only sequence one single midi track ?
