iPhone XS and Max Review

iPhone XS isn't an all-new iPhone. It's a new iPhone X. So, what does that mean?

I don't think Apple intends iPhone X owners to rush out and upgrade to iPhone XS, industry insiders, tech enthusiasts, and those on yearly programs, will of course do just that. Rather, I think Apple intends these new models to appeal to those who didn't yet make the leap to an all-new iPhone. Those who always avoid rev. A boards, or who stuck with Android or with the Home button, or who were simply waiting on a bigger screen.

And, I think for them, iPhone XS or iPhone XS Max are exactly the new phones they've been waiting for.

(Unless they want to wait for iPhone XR...?)

There’s only a small handful of YouTube creators who I enjoy enough to sit through long videos, and you are at the top of that group! I love this technical content, and the narrative you explain that helps tie all of the ‘specs’ together into a *why* behind everything Apple has done.

I don't upgrade often and when I do I like to get a big improvement. Moving from the iphone 6s, the XS Max is the phone I've been waiting to upgrade to. It has enough new features and screen improvements that it is worth the cost. My last upgrade was from the Iphone 5, and before that it was the 3GS. I plan on having this phone for the next 4-5 years and I think I will be very happy with it.

I use an iPhone 7 Plus and will be updating to an iPhone Xs Max space grey 256GB. I’ve never owned an Apple Watch because I never thought it was compelling enough... I’ll be purchasing a series 4 😃

I use an LG V30, and while I am not looking to upgrade, or change to iOS, I appreciate being told a better story about these phones than everyone else (including the Keynote recaps). I like seeing where Apple is going and what will subsequently be adopted by others. I just like my 24-bit audio and won't move away from a headphone jack as long as possible.

While I do enjoy the in-depth look into what Apple did in terms of improvements to the new device I wish there was a more subjective information. Battery life has improved but what did you see in your use case?. The silicon is faster but what does that correlate to in day to day use? The camera is better with a new sensor but what were the differences you noticed in using it for a week. I understand you may not be a photographer or an audiophile but neither are a majority of the people looking to purchase this device. Sometimes the perspective of day to day use is important.

Rene. Your long form videos are great. They have the depth of knowledge that makes your writing so appealing. I plan to move from the 7 plus to the Xs Max. That beast looks like my iPad mini and I loved the iPad mini.

Just migrated from an iPhone 5 after having to replace it's battery and being told I was just about orphaned phone-wise (i.e. if they hadn't had a 5 battery in stock I would likely have been out of luck completely) and made the jump to the XS (my hands aren't big enough to find the Max comfortable)...

Holy cow, loving it in more ways than I can count. Definitely worth the upgrade IMHO although admittedly I've had no long term experience with the XS yet.

The core of the issue is that these phones are meant to last 2-4 years. The "S" models are meant for those that were too early in their cycle to upgrade to the new generation model. the extra "S" features are the reward for those that waited the extra length of time until their current iphone became outdated to get the refined version of the next generation. Of course though, Apple can't really complain about that segment of the market that demands a revolutionary upgrade every year because they are also the ones helping clear the shelves. Just like how I went from the iPhone 4 to 5 to 6 to 7 to the 10s, i am always thoroughly excited about the release, and thoroughly satisifed with the product. If you have an iPhone 10, I frankly don't care what your opinion on the 10s is because it's not your turn for a reasonable, financially conscious upgrade. Even fter 2 years of proper treatment, your phone is going to still have hundreds in value that you can trade in. The complaints about price and lack of upgrades just inherently have no merit. I just spent all day playing with my 10s and comparing it to my nearly defunct iPhone 7, I ordered a screen protector and case because of the price, and look forward to the 11s model when the time comes. I wonder what you think since this was such a good video from such a new channel

I have an 8 Plus and I will be upgrading to the XS Max. My reason for doing so is that, having ADHD, my iPhone is my life tool. It is my electronic extension of my brain; my to-do manager, my calendar, my nagging reminder, my also nagging alarm, my communicator, my news gatherer, my podcast player, and my music player. I use it to participate in my school to finish my degree. It is my full life tool. And being such an important tool for me, I want that tool to be the sharpest tool possible. Since I have the ability to upgrade every year through my carrier, I will get the sharpest tool possible.

My XS Max showed up this morning and it is beautiful. Also got the 44mm aluminum watch, which is absolutely gorgeous, and completely blows away my series 0. It was a good day :-). Great video Rene, you do a great job and I’m always happy to see new content posted to Vector.
