A ''GOOD'' DAY FISHING? - Hiwassee River

Went wading through the Hiwassee river at the powerhouse in reliance, tn. It was a hot day but the water was cool. 14lb Berkeley fireline. Rapala jointed floating minnow. abu Garcia reel.

Wow that really is the darkest smallmouth I’ve ever seen. Like crazy dark, I’ve seen a few different shades of bronze but never full on burnt toast color lol. I was fishing in NC Memorial Day weekend and wish now I just got a TN fishing license and made the 45 min from the cabin near the state line to near the discharge spot at the hiwassee river. Looks like a great spot with a lot of nice open water, I’m hoping to find a float guide service to just rent a kayak and drop me off/pick me up while I fish.

What a diverse and interesting place to fish. Many plant species there, too. And herps and insects, I guess, to watch. The shiny bass looked stunning.

Have you tried a countdown Rapala.lt sinks at one foot per second.lve had good luck for winter bass. You should give it a try in the Hiwassee.

In the late 1960s, as a little kid, about 9 to 11 years old, I fished right by the powerhouse at night with a guy named Donald Merrill (spelling ???) and his brother, who was about my age, named "Noah Bee". They were "hillibillies from Reliance, Tennessee". They did not even have a bathroom at their very large wood frame 2x story house and if we had to take a crap we had to go to a "stinky outhouse". We night fished for catfish and we caught a mess of catfish right near the powerhouse. 7/12/2020 SRC
