The Aircraft Carrier USS America (LHA 6) Conduct Flight Deck Operations.

USS America (LHA-6), is an amphibious assault ship of the United States Navy and the lead ship of her class. The fourth U.S. warship to be named for the United States of America, she was delivered in spring of 2014, replacing Peleliu of the Tarawa class. Her mission is to act as the flagship of an expeditionary strike group or amphibious ready group, carrying part of a Marine expeditionary unit into battle and putting them ashore with helicopters and V-22 Osprey tilt-rotor aircraft, supported by F-35B Lightning II aircraft and helicopter gunships.

The island of this ship looks significantly different than earlier LHA's. I was on the USS Nassau LHA-4.

Why does it say Aircraft carrier? Aircraft carriers are either CV or CVN. One stands for Carrier Vehicle and the other for Carrier Vehicle Nuclear. The new America is a Landing Helicopter Assault, or, LHA. I was on CV-66 and LHA-5, when I served in the USN, Good times. 1989-2003.

USS America has AV-8 Harriers taking off it (clip at 2:04) ? I have been on the USS America several times and I have never seen AV-8 Harriers on it. Also, the USS America is not an Aircraft Carrier; it is an Amphibious Assault ship. Anyway, I like the other footage. It is always cool watching it in person, while out at sea.
