Chetna Sinha, an Indian Social Entrepreneur, initially started out as a farmer and then went on to form the Mann Deshi Bank.
A bank aimed towards helping and empowering poor women in rural India. She first got the idea to start the Mann Deshi Bank after she was shunned by an officer while applying for loans for women. The reason being– illiteracy amongst women!

17 years later, she actively participates to bring about social change in poor, drought-stricken areas of rural India. As the Founder and President of the Mann Deshi Bank, she has consistently been helping women from low income families to fight for their land and property rights.

With over 165,000 clients, six branches and daily transactions by 2,400 clients, the Mann Deshi Mahila Saharika Bank offers much needed help to women in achieving success by providing economic support with healthcare and education. The bank also empowers women in cultivating entrepreneurial skills and aids in providing land and any other means of production.

This story truly portrays that one can give back to the nation in many different ways just like Chetna, who decided to start a bank to empower the women of rural India.
