Images of war and beauty in conversation over time

This work for solo organ was inspired by a passage
from ‘Reconciliation’ in Drum Taps by Walt Whitman (1865):

“Word over all, beautiful as the sky,
Beautiful that war and all its deeds of carnage
must in time be utterly lost...”

Wonderful piece. Just heard it for the 1st time today. Played by Andrew Kirk on the Binns organ in the Albert Hall, Nottingham - and now twice more.

I heard this beautiful piece for the first time yesterday (8 Nov 18) at an organ recital given by Jonathan Price at St. Mary Redcliffe, Bristol. Powerful and moving. I just had to hear it again. Thank you to both composer and organist.

Beautiful, haunting and impressive; especially with such persuasive advocacy on an ideal instrument. This means a lot to me, having sung these words of Walt Whitman as a schoolboy in 'Dona Nobis Pacem' of Ralph Vaughan Williams. Music ordered pronto!
