Hey ya'll, I'm Jess from Roots & Refuge Farm

Welcome to a place that feels like home. A small farm with a big family. We hope you'll pull up a chair, grab some coffee and visit awhile.

There was a time that all I wanted in the world was a little farm where I could raise my family and grow our food. Now, that is exactly what exists outside my door. In watching it unfold, a new dream was formed in my heart – to share this beautiful life with others and teach them the lessons we've learned along the way. Welcome to our journey, friend. I am so glad you're here.

I always ran outside when an afternoon thunderstorm was about to roll in, and I'd pick every single thing that was ripe or near to ripe. That way, they didn't have a chance to crack, and didn't taste all watery like they would have if I'd gotten to them after the rain. Glad I'm not the only one who sees the value in that timing!

Love your videos. If I may humbly suggest, as a lifelong horsewomen, the sitting in the barn with them is more fostering trust and relationship. A great resource, which I continue to learn from, is Warwick Schiller Attuned Horsemanship. The beautiful thing about horses is there is always something to learn, no matter how long we've been at it. Thank you for sharing your life with us 💖

Thank you for letting northern gardeners experience this a little early. My tomatoes are a bit behind anyways but I just noticed my first tomato starting to form. Now the long wait for them to grow and ripen.

My garden is so late due to my mom's passing, but the squash are doing great and so are the peppers. The tomatoes are getting there along with everything else.

Thank you for another great video!
I made butter this morning for the first time ever. You’re a great inspiration Jessica. I’m 61 1/2 yrs old today. I’m still learning but…. I’ve been gardening longer than you’ve been alive and I’m learning from you. You’re never too old to learn. Never.

GOD is amazing. I don’t watch your videos on a regular basis. This morning I was awake long before my alarm and played YouTub to hopefully calm my constantly irritated nerves when you passively mentioned the book “The Body Keeps the Score” that was on your table. I immediately bought it from Amazon. I am a combat Veteran from on of the worst battles in Iraq and my PTSD and anxiety are completely out of control, even though I been in therapy for years and see a therapist regularly. I hope and pray this book bring me some peace and brings my body some rest. Thank you 🙏

Ate my first Sungold tomato this afternoon, standing in the garden in the heat of the day, and thought of you! 💗

Jess and Miah you started the Saturday morning on your porch I am starting my Sunday morning sitting up in bed and watching you drinking coffee and picking tomatoes. Waiting for my breakfast in bed😊 What a lovely way for you to start the day. As it is winter here I am not sitting out on my porch. Still 14C° but the Sun is shining. Will warm up later. The bull at the back fence standing to warm up a wallaby hopping around and the Whip bird hopping on the edge of my newly extended garden bed. Love it.❤ Have a fantastic weekend.

Nice tomato harvest ! You are great with diagnosing sick tomato plants and plucking them out then and there to spare the others. You two are a well-rounded and fun Homesteading duo. You started out my first Homesteader video love and inspiration sooo many years ago....and you still are my favorite !

The tomatoes are looking great! We lost a lot from all of the rain through Central Georgia but we do still have a few good looking ones out there.

Love your linen wardrobe, Jess. The dresses look so pretty hanging on your clothesline. I've never been a fan of synthetic fabrics of any kind and have avoided them at all costs. Sadly, I have found 100% cotton has become more and more difficult to find and if available is insanely expensive. Have had some luck at thrift stores. I've noticed that often times linen is easier to source than 100% cotton. Your tomatoes are looking so tasty. Have a restful holiday. You deserve it!!!!
