Ulmetum was a fortress in the Roman province of Mesia. During the Roman-Byzantine era, this fort played an important role as the trade routes between the Roman cities of Noviodunum and Marcianopolis passed through it. The movement of merchants was controlled by a military garrison. This is now Romanian territory.

Recently, archaeologists discovered a grave, which was a simple pit. The skeleton lay on its right side, apparently with his hands tied behind his back. The legs were probably also tied. There was only one bronze brooch in the inventory. The grave was found to be female, 50 years old at the time of death and about 151 cm in height.

Two of her teeth have cavities. There is moderate deformity on all joints, the result of very active physical labor for many years.

According to the isotope analysis, there was a significant amount of sea fish in the food. Based on the strontium isotope content, the woman originated from the area.
