Your lawn just went through shock from the heat and not receiving water daily. Id definitely try at a later date (spring or summer) to only water 2-3 times weeky. Id like to see how deep your roots are currently.

Here’s what I’d do (if I wanted a cool season grass not to go dormant in an increasingly desert-esque climate)
1. Apply humectant. Hydretain is probably the biggest name brand. There’s pellet and liquid forms. Usually lasted a few months per application for me when I had a lawn in UT.
2. Raise the cutting height at least a half inch. The ”tall” grass will shade the bare dirt, decreasing evaporation.

Dude maybe you should use native plants in your yard. They attract wildlife like birds and insects, they're more interesting to look at, they provide more shade, and they support more microbes for healthier soil. Did you know that grass is the most irrigated crop in the US? Crazy! We don't eat lawns so why are we wasting so much water on them?
