One of the smartest people in the law industry whom I can recognise. I can still remember some salient points of the articles he wrote decades ago. Good to see Mr Woon.

One thing that is missing when people commented on Iswaran's sentence is he tried to cover up his case by asking Ong Beng Seng to send him a back-dated bill & so on. That cover-up is actually a more serious offence than taking gifts from Ong. That point was emphasized when passing the sentence.

"Don't take gifts from people you have dealings with". Absolute common sense! Makes you wonder if other ministers also accept gifts...

What is unprecedented is he managed to get away for accepting "gifts" for over 8 years without being detected !

a brilliant legal mind who spoke truth and justice without fear or favour.

Prof Woon made his position clear without imposing his own views. Eugene Tan could take a lesson or two from him. Put an end to political correctness when there is an absolute need to speak your mind.

By showing his friendship with the tycoon, the Minister exerted indirect influence and, therefore, might have some effects on his subordinates' judgements and decisions. This indirect influence, in my view, was deliberately and subtly cultivated.

The court must be independent and steadfast. Should never become a political instrument to serve the incumbent’s interests

Let’s hope the same case has the same judge.

You dont need clear evidence for this case. This will influence Singapore's reputation greatly as we showed the world our ministers are paid one of the highest to prevent corruption and yet this still happened. Iswaran needs to be set an example, declare bankruptcy and highest jail sentence!

So the charges were reduced to "receiving" gifts which I presume is less than "asking". So why OBS charged with "abetting" only? Should not the one "giving" be equally culpable. Who instigated the corruption?

Iswaran accepted gifts on numerous occasions for 8 years !

The FACT that many of those acolytes hv been trying to undermine what I've posted clearly in my mind shows that Vincent Hoong's decision has been politically influenced. So why is Prof Woon praising VC's judgment? VC obviously has not over-extended his welcome to the position of a Supreme Court judge. In any case no one has defended the judgment which to me does not go well with the Law.

I 'know' Walter Woon as, in my opinion, The Best Debater when I watch his debating skill 'demolished his opponents' ...hahhaa. Good to see him on youtube.

Jai Hind. Presenting and accepting small little gifts as a New Normal will lead down the slippery path of unfettered corruption.
