It's so perfect believe me I'm Bach

The "economy of motion" in this performance is mind blowing. This is a master class on how to negotiate the finger board.

This bass is beautiful! Those jumps are intense, that requires so much skill and confidence

Watched this more than 100 times. What a deep low sound in open string at the start and at 2:54. I really like your performance. Hope to see other cello suite (especially No.6)!

You motivated me to play this suite, this suite is considered very difficult for cello already! Seeing a double bassist can play it this well and perfect!

What’s mind boggling, is professor has such a unique ability to end pieces without crunching chords. Such control

He is using "1/2 step scordatura" so he can play the tonic note of all those phrases with the open D string and avoid the two octave jumps, thus staying in position for more precise intonation.

Merci pour cette briante interprétation. Riche en enseignement. Comme j'aimerai que les contrebassistes publient plus sur youtube! -Un contrebassiste français

Bass players always play this with harmonic fingerings. Cello players don't. I would never trust my E string for this work, lol. Jeff's a master and it works for him but for me that first cadenza after the big #C is much more lyrical on the G string. I'm stealing the open #C for the last chord in the four chord passages, nice.

the amount of resonance is bonkers. like chamber trap music.
