This video shows how to build and use a continous cloud chamber cooled by peltier elements. Materials which are needed:
- Acrylic glass
- a sponge
- 2 peltier elements,
- 2 power supplies
- ethanol or isopropanol (at least 90%)
- a light source
additionally the following materials can be used to improve this cloud chamber:
- magnet (About the size of the chamber)
- high voltage supply

Thanks for posting this! I'm building my own cloud chamber for a science fair (with dry ice, though) and it's nice to have a visualization of what's going to show up & what exactly I need to create.

wow, das sieht echt ziemlich geil aus mit dem laser-licht! o_O

This is the most beautiful light display I've ever seen, even without the awe of directly "seeing" fundamental bits of matter/energy, it looks very nice. I think the supplies are out of my expertise level though. I'd like to see something like this with my laser, 445nm indigo blue 1.3W but its only able to be on 2 minutes at a time- could be an idea for you though to try though. It's an awesome color either way.

What makes this cloud chamber unique is the use of a laser for illumination, yet nothing is explained about how it's configured. Lasers project extremely thin beams of light. Cloud chambers require a sheet of light half an inch thick and wide enough to cover most of the area near the bottom of the chamber. How did you get a laser to project a beam like that? What power laser did you use? Is this chamber really illuminated by a laser, or just a string of green LEDs? The title above claims this is about a laser cloud chamber, yet it's really mostly about a peltier cooled cloud chamber.

Its good. If you can elaborate on the construction then it would be wonderful.

I was always interested in constructing a cloud chambre that doesn't require dry ice. On hand I have 2 peltier junctiions and several 5/12 VDC power supplies. Now all I have to do is to get busy on it.

Remarkable :) can you tell me how does gamma traces differ from beta / alpha ones? Are even gamma traces visible in a regular cloud chamber? Or the probability of collision is too small thus no ion traces are left?

In the water cooling system used to cool the hot side of the peltier, what components did you use to disapate the heat from the water cooling system? was it a simple radiator and fan circuit?

@GxLKoJoTe 37kBq entsprechen 1µCi. Das sind Alpha- Strahler aus
normalen Rauchmeldern und sie fallen mit dieser Zerfallsrate auch noch
unter die Freigrenze für Privatpersonen.

@tfrostholm
It requires 90W electrical power.
You can purchase it now on Ebay just search for cloud chamber at ebay international.

@happykyle49 I dont disapate the heat from the water. This System uses only 5L per hour and therefore i let the "hot" water to flow in the drain.

Why does that single particle trail at 1:45 have such a curved trajectory?

а почему фотоны от обычной лампы дневного света не фиксируются этой камерой? их же миллионы пролетают через камеру?!

@Flachzange1337 Rauchmelder? In Rauchmeldern ist radioaktives Material drin? Ich muss mal Google fragen...
Tatsächlich... Sind die Dinger teuer?
