Lego star wars fans have had modular ships for 25 years

I like the overall design rules Adam Savage (who worked on practical effects for the prequels) has said to differentiate Star Trek from Star Wars. Star Trek is a utopia and Star Wars is a dystopia.
This is reflected in different design philosophies. Star Trek has curves, large flat surfaces, repeated patterns, things look perfect or well designed.
Star Wars has clunky designs, things cobbled together, being rediscovered, imperfect lines and space filled with cables, greeblies and such. All of that underlines the dark universe it is set in.

The chrome finish on the Naboo ships symbolize their of the Naboo Royal Navy. Senator Amidala was able to keep her ship with a chrome finish because of term as Queen.

1:48 I think the "Eta" in the Eta-2 Actis-class light interceptor is a single word, not an acronym. "Eta" is the greek letter that follows the Delta, like the Eta-2 is the successor of the Delta-7.

It's pretty common for smugglers to use 200 year old ships. The Star Wars galaxy had Hyperdrives for 25, 000 years, some ancient tech is more advanced than current tech, archeologists are paired with engineers for when they uncover some ancient warship.

If you think about it, the star wars galaxy is living in a post post post apocalyptic galaxy. The rakata infinite empire that spanned the entire galaxy, held various races as slaves and servants, and created advanced technology such as the hyperdrive. When the Rakata lost their connection to the force, their more advanced technology became useless and the various slave races revolted as the Rakata retreated to the unknown regions leaving behind their technology.

The correllian Corvette like Princess Leia's did have a docking bay that could accommodate Fighters, remember the scene where Ben Kenobi docks the ship he stole from General Grievous in Bail Organa's flagship?

Those bunks are very comparable to a lot of naval ships, with less floor space in the naval berthing area. You can handle that for more than a few days

As I kid I only liked the sleek X-Wing designs, but later I began to appreciate the Millennium Falcon and other designs. I bothered me that Asoka uses that table right after they were walking on it.

Speaking of modularity, ever since the "Uglies" hit the scene, it has amazed me that we didn't see Ugly Freighters. I mean, we know how long the Y wing has been around--and thus pieces were available. Take a Class-A Cargo Container(probably made by Xizor), weld on couple of those beautiful Koensayr engines, take a cockpit from an old Corellian YT and you have an ugly ship, for cheap. I fully understand that some will argue that you can't do this, but, the old WEG D6 Star Wars allowed you to start the game with advanced skills--like Star Ship Design--provided you had 6D in Star Ship repair 4D Technical and +2D in Star Ship Repair and there is your 6D. Granted you would probably need a droid to talk to the computer and to smack the computer--like Han Solo--on occasion. but that just adds to the Role Play of it all. 25 Kilotons of cargo space for less than 50K Creds. True, you will need to use some of that space for a bed, med bay, engineering bay and other things, but that will only reduce you by maybe a Kiloton. And the YT-1300 only had 100 Tons of cargo.

I like how every ship has a purpose
My favorite is how the rebels used fighter/bombers that had hyperdrives, get in, get out and go home to your secret remote base.

I really enjoy your analysis videos, as well as these “technical readout” videos. I used to be huge into Star Wars but not so much these days.i still watch everything they do, judging for myself and not listening to all the hate. Yes, some is not great but I watch it all anyway. Thank you Alan for making these videos!

Allan we appreciate your positive outlook and your ability to make the Star Wars universe feel real and lived in.

I also like this ship very much. I agree the hyperdrive section floating in space could be a big problem, if smugglers, pirates or just salvage teams found it bobbing about up there.
I have to wonder WHY Sol descended into the rings when chasing Mae? He could track her easily from above, no need to tear the heck out of his ship. (I know, 'dramatic effect' and all that.)

The front part of the ship reminds me of the Mando's first ship. I think that ship was so well loved they wanted that connection to it. Then there is the hyperdrive rings, it was a ship trying to recreate a formula. If they wanted people to full in love they could of used a YT1300 as these where around at this time.

The back half of the ship is the hyperdrive. The large sublight engine nacelles are in the front half. There's also a docking bay with a fighter in the front half as well. With all that room taken up it seems like the usable portion of the front part of the ship would be low on interior space.

I didn't really appreciate how cool this ship is until now. I always like the idea of "Home Ships." I would love to see a more modern version of a ship like this, probably post Galactic Civil War so the hyperdrive can stay attached. Maybe the systems would be compact enough they could put some bedrooms in as well.
One other thing I thought was interesting is that Pip was able to assist Mae in the pocket fighter by hooking on to the dashboard. Kind of an early version of the droid socket in snub fighters.

The Polan 717 has a silhouette vaguely similar to Klingon designs. (Made me pause when I saw it for the first time.) The front section alone has a throwback to the style of 1930s Buck Rogers' ships.

My favorite ships in Star Wars is the Mandalorian Gauntlet - beautiful ship, turns 180 on a dime and actually looks like it makes sense, when it pulls those maneuvers.
