Great job. The native plant revolution starts one yard at a time. Now if we can get big box stores to sell them and developers to use them in new neighborhoods.

Picture sunshine mimosa as a ground cover. The pink flowers would compliment the muhly grass.

What a compliment that your neighbors asked you to do this! And i really enjoyed how you explained the process cause landscaping can get tricky, at least i know i get lost in the plants and forget the space. It is going to look fantastic, especially when the mulch is added to make a contrast.

Yay, Jacqueline!!! It’s so awesome that you’re increasing your butterfly range and transforming the neighborhood and helping out your neighbors all at once! I love how you took us through your whole thought process of designing this bed and you made fabulous choices! It looks incredible too!!! That was a ton of fun to watch! And as always you are a hoot! I laughed out loud when you gestured toward your wildflower bed and said, “This shenanigans!” I know the feeling. I’ve got a lot of shenanigans happening in my garden right now too! - Keep preaching the gospel of Florida natives and butterflies, my friend! Thank you for bringing us along on your adventures!!!

I love to hear this. It seems like more and more "normal" people - not just gardening fanatics and permaculture weirdos like myself :p - are embracing native plants and various kinds of low-maintenance, easily-sustainable flower beds and landscaping. That's awesome, thanks for helping spread the word and doing the work!

I have 2 different Cassia plants in my yard. 1 grows like a shrub and stays short. The other more like a tree and it's as tall as roof. Both come back strong after pruning, covered in bright yellow flowers. Around the short one we have a couple of purple flowering plants and Blanket Flowers. Talk about butterflies! The Blanket Flowers are self seeding and come back every year. I shake the plant when it expires to drop it's seeds, give a deep water and ignore the rest of the time. The taller one is in the back, next to a shed. I put a sheet of lattice on each side of the shed and planted Pipevine, Moon flowers and Morning Glories the first year. The Pipevine filled out and took over the cheap lattice (4' X 8') and has the craziest flowers I've ever seen. It also has had Pipevine Swallowtail Butterflies all over and around it since it was a couple months old. Below and around the bottom are tropical Milkweed, Tickweed and a few others that I dug up and transplanted from the wild. Combined with the Myers Lemon and Gladiolus Bulbs I've planted we always have something flowering and butterflies in the yard that I basically ignore besides cleaning up and pruning twice a year with a this or that every now and then. I see Sulphurs of every shape and size, the whites, Black Swallowtail, Giant Swallowtail and Pipevine Swallowtails. There are Monarchs and Queens and the Zebras and Gulf Fritillary are on the Passion Flower vines. Never a dull moment in the yard if you look.

What a fun video! Can't wait to see how it fills in. But I would like to remind people to research plants for toxicity before planting! I had an eye opening experience with my infant daughter grabbing leaves from a bush when I walked by. Fortunately that particular bush was not toxic, but almost all of the other toxic plants got pulled, including the lantana and four o'clocks.

Great video, these are all thoughts that go through my head when people ask for gardening tips. I have so many plants to offer but I know if that plant doesn’t have perfect results then they won’t ask for more help. Awesome advice!

I also pictured a more trimmed hedge and maybe some Coonties along the sidewalk to attract the Atala butterflys???
Love your videos!!!

So cool!!! I get the same response about gardening in Texas. I'm like it's not too difficult!" You gotta have the right plant for your climate and your piece of land. Like you can not plant delphiniums in a Texas spring/summer when it's about to climb up to 100 degrees.

Hello from West Palm Beach FL area. Originally from north in PA, & never did well w plants there either. But now here & REALLY in need of a garden out front, there is nothing there now. But we are NOT green thumbs, most things die. What would you recommend that is like death proof almost? llol (oh & that area happens to be under a gutter area that drips alot when it rains also) We love your channel and appreciate all you do! 😀

Pink muhly grass is awesome! But it gets big so I think I would bite the bullet and remove the green shrubs. Anyway, have you been to Perico Preserve in Manatee County? It’s on an island between Anna Maria island and the mainland. It has big drifts of pink muhly grass that’s gorgeous in autumn. Well worth a visit.
