Chiming in from Perth and have now owned 2 x 120 4ltr V6 GXL Prado's with the current black late 07 GXL with a lot of mods.
I have a hoist in my own DIY workshop (as own 3 x V8 80's classic cars as well) and this Prado has now done 260, 000kms and the engine bay and underneath the engine/trans/transfer case still looks like brand new and devoid of any oil seepage/dirt or grime
I do my oil changes every 5, 000kms with an oil flush before draining out the old oil and use Penrite HPR10 (10w-50) for new oil
Having owned and driven 2 x 1GR-FE 4ltr GXL Prado's over the past 10yrs (the first being an 04 manual GXL) i can attest to how good these engines are if your keep up your regular maintenance schedule to them like is needed for any engine.
My current 07 120 Prado runs custom shorty headers & S/Steel bigger bore exhaust system with high flow s/steel muffler replacing the factory muffler which i believe makes a difference improving performance in torque and fuel economy at highway cruising speed and towing our 18ft Coromal Seka dual axle poptop caravavan with such ease on any incline/hill
It runs Harrop diff lockers and upgraded King Springs with Bilstein struts/shocks and heavy duty (1, 400kg) rated D-slot Dynamic black steelies with AT's and it can get me anywhere i need to get to especially with 2 x 90ltr factory tanks so little need to carry any jerry cans unless going really remote.
Other tips is external trans cooler (comes standard on the 07 model) and a trans flush every 50, 000kms which i usually do 3 x flushes to get all the old fluid out and using Penrite LV for new fluid which meets/exceeds Toyota WS specs.
Also important for the V6 is do a coolant flush every 2 yrs if you want to look after those alloy heads noting the later models >06 they upgraded the headgaskets to better quality so no head gasket issues on some earlier versions that was happening.
These engines also don't like overheating as it can warp the heads so make sure your radiator is in good shape and not partially blocked from lack of scheduled maintenence being the biggest killer of radiators and the V6 heads in my own personal opinion

On my 3rd V6 prado. I only do my oil changes every 10k and at 140k my internals are spotless using a camera. I do have pictures but can’t load up on here. 5k oil changes certainly won’t hurt but overkill in my opinion. I update just before 200 thou on my cars, I’ve never spent a cent on additional maintenance except for as per log books. All 3 been faultless. Mine is due for 150 change now and engine is spotless no oil weeping etc anywhere. Spewing Toyota stopped making the petrol prado. Waiting to see if they bring out petrol in the 300.

Hi Antony love your videos very informative as always. But I've not seen any advice on hydraulic brake fluid flush replacement. Enjoy your leave.

I’m in the states with a 4.0 Tundra. Any chance I can join one of your groups? Don’t have much information on these engines in the states.
