Making of a special cut knurling tool

Last year I bought some different cut knurling wheels for my mini lathe. The original holders for the wheels are very expensive, so I made my own one. Now I 'm able to knurl in any angle I want (if I have the right wheels ;) ). Straight, fishbone and also 45 degree cross knurling.

Nice! And I've been wondering why people build these complicated knurling tools - this is perfectly adequate for hobbyists!

Thumbs up from me. Love the idea of putting the angled markings on the back

Nie wiem czy wszyscy mają to samo wrażenie, ale toczenie i frezowanie metalu ma w sobie coś hipnotyzującego.

maybe flood it with coolant or mist it to remove the chips so that they are not interfering with the work. Chips are such a problem in all machining operations removing them so that the cutters is nit re-cutting them dramatically improves surface finish.

Thank you for sharing your project; the part and the video production are both top quality.

Really great idea. I was amazed at how you did it

диаметр детали должен быть кратным диаметру ролика накатки, иначе зубчики не будут совпадать и будут раздавливать друг друга .

Now cut a thread with the same pitch and it will make a diamond-shaped knurl. It comes out a little closer to a square or rhombus shape when I do it.

Which wheels did you use? If there was a shot that included the markings clearly I missed it.
Also, a thought - getting the washers and the wheel aligned on the shaft looks a little fiddly, why not have shoulders on the brass and a smaller shaft? That way you can have brass (or switch to bronze) as the bearing surface instead of steel-on-steel, and the washers and the wheel will align.

Nice video on a topic rarely covered on YouTube.
A small criticism: I think you could tweak the head angle a bit to get knurls that are more straight. It is tough — I speak from experience with an actual commercial cut knurler.

Sehr gute Arbeit. Aus was hast du denn den Hauptträger gemacht? 235, 355 oder ein Cr? Gefällt mir gut.

Great tool! I'm curious, what type or brand of bluing did you you use on the steel? Seemed like it gave a very even finish!

Can you specify the knurling wheel specs you used?

What chemical did you apply to the metal to make it black color ? What is that procedure ?
