We all can (and should) write our own songs on the piano. Composing your own music is easier than you think. All you need are some guidelines, creativity, and an open mind. In this lesson, Lisa walks Jordan through some simple steps to compose a song. These steps include:

-Creating a melodic theme
-Playing the theme in different ways
-Changing up the rhythm

If you learn Gymnopedie 3 by Erik Satie that’s exactly what he did, a bunch of chords progression and inverted chords with a easy melody on the right hand, changing octaves, changing starting point note, but sticking to the same group of notes and pattern, and it sounds really beautiful.

They actually hit on something really important. piano is all about learning notes and picking a theme. if you ever wanted to make a song you would have to know what each note sounded like...which also involves combining them into a melody. I've figured this method out in my own time through practice on my own. Simply playing the piano is enough to eventually learn it :)
