My first gigging band at age 17 played the full length version of this tune at weddings and school dances. People either danced or stared at us in disbelief.

Thank you Tim, for all your recent posts, here and Papastache"s channel. When you play like the Allman's, you sound like the Allman"s, then you play like Jimi, you sound like Jimi. You are truly a musical chameleon.

This made my day. I've been on an Allman Brothers kick lately, and have been listening to this song in particular over and over again. Great stuff.

What a coincidence, these past few days I've been thinking about learning this song, and then BAM! Nicely done.

Has anyone ever watched the Dan Rather interview with Dickey Betts? He tells the story of how he came up with the name of this tune. It's not what you may think as many of Allman Bros hit songs have names of women (i.e. Melissa, Jessica). When Dickey was young he couldn't afford a motel so took a girlfriend to a local cemetery and he just happen to look up during their "activity" and there was a headstone in front of him that said "In Memory of Elizabeth Reed". Now her memory lives as we are sitting here learning from Tim.

Nice lesson.  Sweet Les Paul playing southern rock sure sounds fine.  Thanks.

One of the first songs I play when I pick up my acoustic. Never learned every part though. I’m going to tackle the unknown in the morning.

Marty & Tim, you both are my primary online teachers, but I actually learned this from someone else. Nobody seems to teach the whole song. Can you please do a complete run through?

Tim Pierce is such an underrated guitar player he's got some of the smoothest playing of all time

For whatever reason, out of the 60's & 70's (my era) this is the rock instrumental that touches me most. At 65 yrs, I just bought a
guitar/amp set and my goal is to be able to play this song with the same loving touch as I hear it performed on the Fillmore East.

I listen to this song frequently at the gym when I'm working out and I always feel like such a bitch when my eyes get wet by the beauty
of this awesome classic.

Thanks much to GuitarJamz for laying down a path for me to begin to learn how to play it.
