Fun Fact Crawling was originally a glitch that was caused by the swimming in update aquatic, and Mojang just decided that it was cool and kept it in the game.

Glass panes are 2 pixels thick with the default texture pack.
Minecraft blocks are 16 pixels wide/long in the default texture pack.
Minecraft blocks are exactly 1 cubic meter.

That means that glass panes are 2/16 of a meter thick. 2/16 of a meter is 12.5 centimeters, or 4.9 inches thick.

Try breaking 5-inch thick glass with a bow and arrow made from 3 twigs and spider silk.

Crawling was never meant to be in the game, the animation for swimming was just a cool feature they wanted to give us but then people glitched the game and turned swimming into crawling. So your basically asking "Why didn't mojang add an animation for something they didn't know was in the game?!"

Fun fact: that is actually how you have to get iron and gold. They must be smelted or else they will stay a small rock. Therefore this mechanic makes a lot of sense.

Um they literally created a software that can create landscapes spread over millions of blocks and unique from each other.

Also the reason the crawling animation is same as swimming is because the crawling was a glitch which Mojang turned into a feature for their fans

The reason that iron and gold ore come in ore form when you break them is because in real life diamonds and emeralds and other jewels can easily be broken off from the stone but metals are more in the stone so you have to smelt it if you want to get the metal.
