I don't think many people understand BYD. BYD, years back, was a major battery manufacturer. BYD bought an existing Chinese car factory as a way to quickly gain the ability to manufacture cars.

BYD has been manufacturing EVs that have been used as taxis in China for years. BYD is not a 'start up', they are an experienced battery and vehicle company.

You just have to look at what China has done in the flat screen TV industry, the mobile/cell phone industry and the solar panel industry to understand what is about to happen to the auto industry.

You are right. We are saying legacy auto is in trouble but even that may be an understatement. Russia has ruined any chance of a slow wind down of the ICE business and China auto companies and Tesla are years ahead in EVs.

BYD, NIO and Xpeng Have lots of Synergies in their Critical component which is the Battery Tech and Management system, Infotainment System and Autonomous Driving System ( Including HOME made Chips ) . Currently NIO uses ALL Imported Chips ( Nvidia ) in their EVs which the US govn have "threaten" to CUT OFF last week. These companies would be GROSSLY Negligent / Incompetent if they do not take Contingent and remedial actions .

Notwithstanding the increasing consumer demand and prices of raw materials, Tesla may, for now, be gradually increasing the retail prices on their vehicles in order to buoy their cash accounts. When BYD, et al., come to compete in Tesla dominated markets, Tesla will have to match the retail prices assigned to the new models. No doubt, the lower margins will still be substantial enough to foretell doom for the legacy companies who couldn’t, or didn’t want to, change when it would have helped. GM screwed America’s future economy when they killed EV1 - twenty years ago.

When the Chinese see opportunities, they are all over it. You can go to any part of the globe and find a Chinese restaurant. This speaks to their mindset of hard work and sacrifice and this now applies to EV's.

I have no doubt the Chinese are coming for that market share and will no doubt dominate. I, for one welcome the Chinese overlords forcing innovation as opposed to laziness.

People here in the US think that Rivian and Lucid are more legit than BYD, which is just hilarious and shows that most people don't have a clue about what's actually going on. Our hubris is going to get the best of us. Thankfully, we have Tesla, so we're not going to lose the entire industry.

great insight...but I doubt the US will allow those imports to be purchased on the cheap. I'm sure legislators are working on some slimy bureaucracy right now to tax or penalize the company or individual buying those Chinese vehicles so legacy is competitive? what do you say Sam?
