Nothing we do or ever can do makes us deserving of the blessings of the atonement. It was a gift for a reason.

Just recently made friends with some missionaries. I can't explain how. I asked God to help me. I'm glad to say that I am starting to feel peace and hope. I know it's going to be a hard journey but I know Jesus is always by my side. Things will get better. And for that I am grateful.

I woke up with the word atonement on my mind. I don’t use that word and feel I need to look into it.

D&C 84:88
And whoso receiveth you, there I will be also, for I will go before your face. I will be on your right hand and on your left, and my spirit shall be in your hearts, and mine angels round about you, to bear you up.

I'm a bit confused about Mormon's view of this - I have heard a lot about having to live according to the commands of the Bible and the Book of Mormon in order to earn a place in a higher heaven. But the Bible also says that no one is righteous and faith in the sacrifice of Jesus is the only way to heaven, not works. You guys say that you will deserve to one day stand in front of God, which implies that you have earned that right yourself. So where do a person's actions fit into this? Just trying to get a grasp on what you guys believe. Thanks for the video!

If we’re all spirit children of God, what do LDS believe makes Jesus special?

Why does the Old Testament speak of blood atonement for sin but the Church teaches sin was atoned for in the garden? Why are we told to take up our cross and not go take up our garden?

Sounds like you said you will feel like you deserve to be in heaven because of the fight you fought.

Perhaps the atonement is actually a lesson rather than an event? Jesus "turned the other cheek" and accepted punishment for that which He did do and what He did not do. He did proclaim himself equal to God, and that was punishable by death in first century Judaism. He did not incite people to rise up against their rulers. Maybe the lesson is to be true to God and who He is and who He created you to be, no matter the consequences? For perhaps you too can atone for the sins of those around you by extending your grace and mercy, which are your gifts of God, to others, as Jesus did and does?

Huh? Let’s look a little closer at D&C 19 section that meant to be direct revelation from Jesus to Joseph Smith.

“Which suffering caused myself, even God, the greatest of all, to bleed at every pore, “

This is obviously referring to Luke’s Gospel (22: 44) “his sweat was as it were great drops of blood falling down to the ground”

If Luke served as source material for the “revelation, ” Smith was was certainly unaware that the “sweat-like-blood” verses were not originally in the Gospel of Luke / they were later additions. Scholars indicate that these verses were added well after the Gospel of Luke was penned, because the verses cannot be found in the oldest manuscripts of Luke. Many scholars also believe that verse 44 does not mean Jesus sweat blood, but rather that his sweat was like blood - a simile.

Thanks for your videos they are very informative.
I’m much like yourself I’m not a Latter Day Saint but actually a Jehovah’s Witness so I follow the bible teachings which you guys also do claim to accept and follow even though you also follow the Book of Mormon too.
But regarding this afterlife business that you speak about please let me share this scripture with you.
Psalms 115:17 “The dead do not praise Jah, nor do any who go down into the silence of death.”
How do you feel about that scripture Justin?
It likens death to silence not to a continued existence in an afterlife.
We believe that this can only come about at the resurrection at the last day at what you may think of as the messiahs second coming.
Because this is where You find a problem.
Too many things that the Mormons teach conflict with bible teaching yet on the surface of things you claim to be a believer of both books.
But how can you believe both of them when they don’t agree with each other on some things?
It’s as though you guys have replaced the bible with the Book of Mormon and choose to believe that book over the bible, despite Joseph Smith been widely debunked as a cunning fraud by most sources.
