HTC Vive XR Elite is the new VR that everyone was hyped about at this year’s CES, and it got some really positive feedback in terms of design and performance. Seems like Meta is dropping their price down to 1100usd now just to compete with HTC launch of the HTC Vive XR Elite

Picking up a Meta Quest Pro tomorrow for $975. I've had the Quest 2 since launch use it for PCVR/workouts. My main complaints with it have been dull colors compared to my qled tv and ipd issues for people that need it on 3. I see the resolution as plus because it already takes a top of the line 4090 system to max out the quest 2's resolution in Flight Sim 2020/Sim Racers. Deeper blacks/wider fov/color are where its at for me personally. Quest pro has many flaws but at around 1k it makes sense imo, $1500 is way over the top.

My Vive just developed red and green verticle lines. does that mean it will soon fail like Valve Index does?

I got pre-ordered HTC Vive XR elite and send it back, vertical FOV about 90° look like in little holes not full VR experience, and right screen of my XR elite was with more defective pixels, the Vive soft looks like start developing with much of bugs. I don't recommend to buying it.

I think the Quest pro left out diopters because they thought in an office setting no one wants to adjust them every time the headset is swapped. I think this is it, I bet the quest 3 will have them and pretty much every headset from this point forward. This was the main reason I pre-ordered the XR Elite, that and the battery can be removed so I can lay down in the headset to watch movies. I loved to do this with my quest 2 when I had the standard strap but every other strap that makes the headset tolerable when standing up/moving around doesn't allow this.

Also, the chip in the headsets has the same processing power, the only difference is they broke the memory off so it can be cooled separately on another chip. This is just down to poor cooling though, Meta for whatever reason can't design a good cooling solution. The pico 3 uses the combined chip yet doesn't have a problem keeping it cool and is more silent than the quest 2 while being able to have higher clock speeds.

On the face of it the XR Elite is the clear winner but hold on... The XR Elite with eye and face tracking will be much more expensive and looks ugly as anything. The brightness of the Quest Pro with local dimming is better and I've heard despite whats been said here that the FoV is better on the Quest Pro as well. You also know the software will be much better and improved over time with Meta's excellent patch cadance which remember will support MR features in both the existing Quest 2 and Quest 3 models as well. In the XR Elite's favour though is it's sleek design, comfort, slighly higher resolution and MR experience which are all great attributes. Ultimately for me both fall a little short and to be honest I like the concept but I'm waiting for the Quest Pro 2 where I hope they correct some glaring issues with the design, namely the poor resolution and colour passthrough with mixed with B/W and colour camaras yuk! It's still too heavy and should have had an optional top strap and fully enclosed facial pad and an Dp video input... but of course a Quest Pro 2 should fix all of that right! 🤔

I have one Quest 2, I tested a PICO G2, and now I see this HTC Vive, but I'm not impressed : because it's been three years and standalone VR headsets haven't evolved much. 4K resolution is not a big deal (2000 pixels per eye). I guess in a few years we will see real 6K resolution headsets (I'm talking about standalone ones, not the wired ones). I despise the screendoor effect, and while the HTC Vive appears to have slightly higher resolution than the Oculus Quest 2, I will wait a few years before purchasing a new headset. I will wait for the real 6K.

I think they release this too late. Last year we have no option for competition till pico. It's also too early, they should wait and release one with gen 2 instead to compete with quest 3. Developers surely want to make use of gen 2 extra power and more gen 1 headset be left in dust with older games just like Q1
