YUP!! Totally going to get this one. And when you said you finished it at "15" hours, I knew I'd like it right away. In this era of super long RPGS and other games, it's nice to have shorter games.

The main character for my book is a war vet with severe ptsd. This game seems perfect, and as of the moment, I have over 10hrs in it. It's a lot of fun, and the dark moments are handled respectfully.
It's nice to have a character, multiple characters, that remind you that it's okay. You don't need to be perfect, you don't need to be going 100% all the time, you can take a moment and relax.

Ah, a cozy game that's NOT pixelart. Thank you. Now, these devs are kinda known for weird stuf (e.g., Stanley Parable), so it doesn't surprise me that it's not what is expected of a cozy experience. There are some cozy/farming game that have serious backstories. Coral Island has the oil spill. Fields of Mistria has the earthquake. Even Stardew has the effects of war and ptsd. But it's just backstory and setting; not a "dark" experience but just a reason to clean up. I'd like to try this one to see if it really does get dark (from reviews I've watched, the darkness is integral to the game, not just backstory). And the art style looks fantastic. Thanks for the review.

This, Metaphor Refantaszio, and Astro Bot are games that really make me want to get a PS5. I'm hoping to have enough saved up by my birthday

MMORPG SPOILERS AHEAD:

[SKIP IF SPOILER]
I've played games, primarily MMORPGs, that brush PTSD off with a few magical words of friendship, togetherness and happiness and rainbows and rainbows (did I mention rainbows?). "If we just believe in our friends, we can get through this!" and then nothing else. It's insulting and it diminishes the trauma brought on by harrowing recollection. (WoW doesn't really explore PTSD with your character; you see it in the narrative off NPCs and Hero characters before you. GW2 addressed it in EoD and made it laughably-bad and short, like it was an after-thought that could be instantly mended with the power of friendship. FFXIV introduced a lot of circumstances where the WoL does indeed tackle harrowing events but never truly struggles with PTSD or recovery; several near-death experiences later and you really aren't haunted. It doesn't do much to connect your character with reality and still props you up as an immutable boss-ending beast that acts as the emotional rod to those around you but it doesn't show your weakness or doubts. Stormblood and Shadowbringers and some of Endwalker hand-in-hand had the best narrative that tackled that issue, but starting at Dawntrail was by far the worst case of recovery/recuperation. But I digress).

[READ HERE IF SKIPPED SPOILER]
It's good to see actual PTSD being tackled as the main focus for the narrative, and how others are drawn to the coziness of a tea shop because they seek a safe space to collect themselves at. Most people struggling from PTSD lash out when triggered, or simply want to be left alone; constructive work and encouragement, slowly over time, helps the afflicted cope and find productive ways to live with that burden rather than succumb to it. This seems to embody that idea, rather than downplay it with a rose-tinted sheen of idealistic optimism. Healing takes time, and this game seems to embrace that concept the most accurately in my experience.

Thank you! I saw this game advertised and planned on checking it out. Knowing that it can trigger motion sickness is so helpful, I can prepare myself properly if I get it! So many game reviewers don't bring up motion sickness (probably cuz they don't experience it) so I really appreciate the heads up! ❤

I played the demo and fell in the love with the whimsical fairytale wonderland esque atmosphere and art style. It reminded me of a show I loved as a kid called Ever After High especially the wonderland focused episodes and knew I would like this game! However I'm a broke student in college and I'm waiting to buy it for now.

I really love the way they brought mental health issues into this game, i havent played the demo by myself yet, but i see ur gameplay video of the demo when it started and i was like woah didnt expect they would go that deep and i relate to Alta because thats also wht ive been feeling these past few years. Hopefully i'd like the game just as much as u do🥰

I played the demo for this and luckily my motion sickness wasn’t triggered for this game but the zoom ins were pretty annoying. I quite like my games on the longer side so I’m a bit disappointed it’s only 16 hours. I’ll definitely still get it though because I was really hooked onto the premise 🤩
