At 16:30 you suspect a bad LED, you can check if it is working by looking at it with a digital camera, most are sensitive IR.
Double check your phone by looking at output of TV remote.

Maybe a motorised 3D printed chopper/timing wheel cutting each beam will prove the delay is consistent, meaning that it is intended.

Probably the 2 second delay is to handle legs and such triggering the beams, and I would guess that you need 2 beams broken to do a trigger, so that an errant moth or fly does not affect the results by flying between the poles in use.


Check IR emitters with cellphone front camera, as it will not have IR filters, and also how about lifting module slightly and using a bit of double side foam tape there to damp vibration of it, will save those joints from stress.
