So scary!

Bamboo sure gets a bad rap... but growing bamboo makes sense for the future. Building material, plant stakes, fodder for animals, biochar...

I would say "rightfully concerned" rather than "scared" on my part. If I were 40 years younger I might give it a go, but I simply don't have the kind of energy anymore to keep bamboo beat into submission.

Perfect plant to buy a huge sword and practice your swordsmanship on

Running Bamboo only gets out of control if you are unwise about where you plant it and let it. Not the brightest thing to plant it next to a house or foundation. It only spreads so far if you have animals that graze on the new shoots, or if you responsibly manage and harvest the Bamboo like you should be doing, you won't have issues. If you just leave it and let it grow for years and years, well duh yeah it can spread but it still takes many years. Manage and harvest the Bamboo clump like you should and it is easily to take care of.

If ONLY that tall variety of bamboo could grow in Canada! I would love to have that much building and crafting material!!

It makes awesome plant stakes and trellises.

The landlord forbids me to plant bamboo, but has expressed an interest in it. I bought some from Daisy earlier and have it in a giant pot, where it is biding its time until they change their mind about the plant.

The problem is you will eventually die or move, and then it will in fact become a problem. Invasive plants are no joke.

I had bamboo around my house for 50 years it didn't go out of control a little cleaning up here and there and that's it just pick the right type

There's 100s of species of bamboo, some are extremely invasive growing 4 feet a day and spreading uncontrollably ruining while ecosystems.

Some are not invasive and controllable. It's an amazing and useful plant; but especially in Florida, know which species you're planting.

There are species of bamboo that do not spread like a plague, but you better get a sprout that has the source tree as reference to verify this, rather than buy a random plant sight unseen

I agree. Food, building material, and charcoal. Bamboo is awesome

Bamboo went through the concrete basement of my neighbors home and it’s been uninhabitable

We grow bamboo on our farm and have done some videos. You are correct, this is the very useful plant. What type do you have, mine was a very slow grower. Sabrina ❤

Cane is native in our area. Not as large, but you still need to keep an eye on it.

You nailed it biochar bamboo grow quick turning into biochar spreading it. Coast to coast might be one of the greatest things in American agriculture. If we can get it done try and re-create that ancient Maya in black earth that would be a huge benefit for the entire country, especially the dry regions running out of water

Haha, I have bamboo. It will definitely get out of control but if you beat it back regularly it ain't bad. It is nice needing a straight stick and just grabbing one. People pay money for straight sticks 😂

I try not to plant invasive species. I have traveled by car across many parts of the USA and it is heartbreaking to see bamboo take over riverbanks crowding out the native species. Scared, no. Concerned about the irresponsibility of those who plant it and call it “spreading nature”, yes.

I didn't know people were scared of bamboo. It's an incredibly versatile plant. I know a lady who was trying to get rid of hers until she realized she could eat the shoots.

We need a video on what to do with it! How to prevent it from going where you don't want it. I've been thinking about putting some in front of my house as a natural fence!
