It's hard to believe that I am still alive, having endured 7 long years in repressive North Korea where Christianity is brutally suppressed in the 80s when I first heard this song. This song was a source of encouragement to me then and still is today. Christ Jesus truly proved to be and (Praise God!) still is my hiding place.

This is the first ever worship I ever learned in the Spring of 1995, after I accepted Jesus when I was a student. I left the campus to go home that summer ant I was alone and had no church to go to. When I was alone and afraid, I used to sing this song and the power of the Lord and his assurance was with me. This is the reason this song is so dear to my heart, because it reminds me of God's faithfulness and my first steps with Him.

Back in the early seventies was the first time I heard this song, never could I shake it off my head, for a long time, as I was seeking the Lord for answers, it seem to always be in the back of my head and as I would be praying or working thinking about my needs, it would spring up like a fresh glass of water in a dry desert, and I would start humming it or singing, great is his faithfulness, and his mercies are from everlasting to everlasting, "because of the Lord's mercies we are not consumed".
