That is actually great story telling, all the other princesses are waiting for him to dance with them basically saying "would you like to dance with me" but our girl shows how different she is just by walking up to him and gesturing "i would like to dance with you" its shows shes know whos the actual prize and that shes more then willing to claim it while everyone else just waits around hoping the prize comes to them

She had met the king before in the Streets and they had a dance together but she didn't know who he was.
So when she met the king again, she asked for the dance, and the king immediately recognized her.

I guess the girl confirmed that the King doesn't just invite just anyone to dance with him. So she chooses to reciprocate his feeling by offering a dance.

For those who have never watched the anime, the king had disguised himself as someone else and met her while he was in disguise. They danced while attending a street festival and the girl even admitted she’s never danced with a boy before. Once she figured out the guy is ACTUALLY the king, the she proceeds to “ask” him for a dance. It’s a cute moment and bittersweet if you know what comes afterwards…
