i7-9750H will be a 6 core with 12 threads max clock 4.6 GHz. I saw it in the lenovo portuguese web page of y540 5 days ago, meanwhile they deleted the information ;)

8 cores 8 threads and 6 cores 12 threads is kind of a toss up. Like 8700k -> 9700k, gaming performance probably won’t be too much different. I’d look for the deals on 8th gen chips.

Waiting for 2019 MacBook Pro with Ice Lake i9, AMD Navi graphics, and hopefully fixed keyboard. Seriously upgrading if my 2018’s keyboard fails 3 times or more after replacement.

Do you expect it to be more efficient than the 8750h despite not having a better nm lithography proceess? I really hate the thermals on i7 8750h laptops especially with the thinner ones hanging around 90c while gaming. Would be a shame if it wasn't much more efficient and yet was upclocked to 4.6ghz to give performance but gets hotter or stays as hot as the 8750.

Also, with models like the dell g series and lenovo y740s, how long do you think until they will implement the 9th gen cpus on those because they came out only a couple months ago with the 8th gen cpus? Perhaps around may or june?

The bottleneck of these laptops is not the clock speed, it's the thermals that restricts the max sustained clock speed. We can't even take full advantage of this generation's CPUs as it is. I wonder what the 9th gen will be like with 2 more cores at faster clocks. My bet is there's just going to be more overhead unused because of the thermals.

What are we supposed to do if they keep updating their cpus . Why can’t I just find a perfect laptop that will last 12 years

I had this XPS 9570 i9 for five months. I had many issues. The sound went crazy after a bios update four
weeks ago. The screen bleed made watching videos and Netflix a pain not the
great experience I was expecting from a high end laptop. Dell sent a tech guy
to replace the motherboard, the screen and the speakers. BitLocker had been set
up by Dell so when the new components were replaced the laptop was locked. Dell
solution was a fresh install of Windows. All my info would be wiped……NOT GOOD!
I had done my research but Dell are doing quite a lot wrong. I don’t want to
but maybe it’s time to go back to Apple. Any suggestions?

so you are saying ASUS ROG Strix Scar II with i9-9880H is not worth it? What if I use a cooling pad or a fan?

As if current gen cpus aren't hot enough to toast some laptops.

The REAL upgrades are coming around this time next year when Intel FINALLY shifts to a 10nm CPU architecture (from the current 14nm) with the 10th Generation Ice Lake CPUs. It'll be Intel's first die shrink since 2014. That's major. That's when I plan to buy a new laptop, although I'd ideally try to push it to 2021 when USB4 support starts becoming ubiquitous. That's crucial, and it's not something you can upgrade later.

Useful video as always. I suspect there would be a lot of confusion with this 9th gen i7 8/8 CPUS, with people getting home realizing their 9th gen i7 might be slower than their 8th generation 6/12 i7, unless intel generates drastic IPC gains.

The 8750h struggles in most laptops as is.

Has a little birdie told you if the refreshed XPS 15 will have the white deck like the XPS 13 or any other details? That would be killer and worth waiting for!

The base clock is 3ghz so disabling turboboost is gonna be OK, not like i7 8750 whose base was only 2.2ghz

Wondering what laptops will have the i9-9880H.

Great. This will make already overpriced rtx laptops even more unaffordable.

I've read multiple tech sites expecting that the i7-9750H is 6 core 12 threads just like i7-8750H. Can you confirm that the 9750H is actually 8 cores? Thanks.

9th gen cpu means they going to have 240 and OLED 4k specs as well for manufacturing sides ?

Why is the Razer blade 15 rtx 2060 not on your recommend ?, Price wise it's only few more than one you have listed.
