How far can the James Webb Telescope see?

The James Webb Telescope is a time machine, able to look back about 13.5 Billion years: it observes galaxies so far away that their light had to travel that long to reach us. We see snapshots of the time when the first stars form in galaxies.

But how far away are these galaxies? Spoiler: it's not simply 13.5 Billion light years, as is sometimes said. Because the universe is expanding, the answer has more twists to it.

Enjoy some cosmology. And some toys.
