I think you are under qualifying yourself here Mark. I can only imagine all of the stuff that any LEO has to deal with. Not necessarily you alone, but also with the people you come across while on duty. I can imagine that in 30 years you made a great deal of a difference and even though I'm an american, I thank you for your service to Canada. Great video as always.

Thanks Mark. A lesson I learned the hard way tough like John Wayne isn't good for anyone. Another tough lesson that you hit on is, JUST LISTEN. Men want to fix things, we need to Just Listen. Our wives will appreciate it too. Thank God we enjoy spending time in the woods. IMHO nothing more therapeutic than that. This is a difficult time of year, holiday stress, too little A timely topic.

Great to see so many channels doing this to raise awareness. So many suffer. I am a 20 year Army vet. We are losing 22 per day. Thank you!

You must have seen quite a bit in those professions Mark. Good to see you retired strong and came out of those careers with a strong mind

This is the very best "show us you steak" video I have seen. Good work Mark. You must have been one hell of a Peace officer.

Nicely said Mark. My biggest concern about mental health for both men and women is for those veterans returning home from combat. There are far too many who opt for the ultimate drastic choice to solve a problem. I've lost both a cousin and a grand son to suicide, and in both cases nobody had a clue about what was going on with them. So, you're absolutely right. Ask them if they feel like they might want to talk. Thanks for posting.

Mark, as a former officer you are uniquely qualified to discuss mental health. You’ve seen people at their very worst, often times brought on by underlying mental health issues.

Mark, thank you for talking about this. I've by a jailer for 10 years now with a sheriff's department. I've seen things and experienced things that has bothered me. I was also in a fire department for 10 years and seen more than my fair share of death and other things I really do not want to talk about. I've been married for 29 years with 2 grown children. I did fall into a state of depression, and did not realize it, and almost cost me my marriage. And just recently almost lost my job. This year I had back surgery and had a complete disk removed due to it mashing my left sciatic nerve, and putting me on a walking cane. Now I have another disk that has slipped out and going thru the same things again. I have a great bunch of guys I work with, and they have helped me along the way. My family cannot begin to understand what I've been thru and the things i have seen. One of my coping methods has been wood working. I may not be a certified carpenter, but I can pretty much build anything I want or need. I'm not sure this can help anyone, but I take pleasure in seeing a finished product.

Mark, I’ve been watching your videos for a bit now. I have to say your message of friendship and judgement free communication was heart felt, genuine and I appreciate that. It’s why I watch you.

Mark, everything you said resonates with what I know from my own training and years of experience as a mental health professional. I appreciated your approach to this challenge; opening up the discussion to everyone instead of tagging specific people. I feel that this not only allows folks who may not be ready to speak additional agency over that decision, but also allows those who are ready to speak on the subject a chance to do so without feeling the need to wait for a formal invitation. My brother and I have been in the mental health field for close to 40 years combined. I'm planning to ask him if he'd be interested in doing this challenge with me as I feel we both have a lot to say.

Thank you for talking about suicide prevention. What you said is spot on. I’ve had friends who considered and even tried to kill themselves. I’ve always believed in talking about it in a direct but compassionate way. I’ve always emphasized the importance of seeking the help of a professional. And I’ve even taken some to their mental health counseling sessions and waited for them in the lobby while they saw their counselor. Sometimes they had to take a break and come out and join me in the lobby then go back in. I e just tried to be a safe and accepting and encouraging support as much as I could. So far not lost any of those friends. Though I know that this kind of support is no guarantee, I know how vital it is. I hope others can do the same and maybe help their friends and family as well. Thanks for taking time out of your day to talk about it

Well, Mr.Young
I just knew that there was something special about you, this video I have listened and watched harder than any video on YouTube.
This video hits home for me, few years back we had a 9 year old, on my wife’s side of the family commit suicide over being bullied and what you said about asking and listening is so true . Always ask every day the folks in your family how things are going, and most importantly is to listened to what they said and how they say it.
Last thing I would like to say is, Thank you for your service to the Beautiful Country of Canada and to your Fellow workers who are first responders .God Bless .
💯🇨🇦

Wow! Great channel. I am an asthma educator here in NYC. I have taken several train classes on Ault Mental health as well as adolescent mental health through the NYC Mental Health & Hygiene. I wish this could've been available to be at least 5 years ago. It would have possibly helped in preventing my big brothers suicide. Thank you for posting.

Hmm... interesting. Not something I've really thought much about.
Good to have some idea and it might come in useful, at least some grounding for an initial encounter.

Mark I was tagged in this challenge by Dan from Camp Life Bushcraft, but I also tagged your channel in my video response because in my opinion you have covered the topic the best of any challenge videos I’ve watched. Thanks for what you do.

Mark I appreciate your approach to the challenge. I think your experiences make you very qualified for the subject matter. I also appreciate the fact that you didn’t tag others, but rather left it out there as an open invitation to other YouTubers to pick it up and carry it on. I’ve been tagged in this challenge myself and plan to do it soon. Life tends to get between me and the camera and makes it tough to get videos out in a timely manner, but I still plan to do it. Thanks for all your great videos, especially this one.
