It’s weird artist always hate the song that becomes one of their “hits”

I just hope she finds herself and who she is and wants to do as an artist because the world can't keep backing u into a corner all the time in order for u to release your craft and that will result in inconsistency and being unable to compete because other artists ARE also pushing

She's proud of what she did as she should, motivation is a bop

Seems to me like she wants to be in control of when she's ready and wants to release music. Motivation just happened to be a freak incident on her journey there. I can actually respect that. She has high standards for herself.

Normani is always like this. I feel like she is such a perfectionist to the point that she takes WAY TOO LONG to release music

The context is important here. She’s talking about the music video specifically and not wanting to release it because she’s a perfectionist. It doesn’t sound like she has any issues with the song itself and even with the video, it’s not that she doesn’t like it, she was just scared to release it because of her own self doubt.

Gurl Motivation is literally Song of the Summer material

That’s weird that she felt that way…..I wish she would’ve elaborated on why she didn’t want it released. Did she think it felt unfinished or did she just not care for it? Idk I get that the label pushed but why book a VMA slot if you don’t have a song out? Not everybody can pull a Beyoncé move like that. She’s gotta stop overthinking every detail. Thank god for her label and VMA’s for pushing her. She produces fantastic work but I swear, no one would know if it were up to her 😂

They should've let her perform "Waves" - it's not like it wasn't the actual nominated song, that she actually won the vma for... was "Motivation" even nominated the next year?

She didn’t even want to put out Wild Side, she’s too insecure as an artist

I’m thankful she expressed her fear. I’m also proud of her for overcoming it.

So that’s why she took a hiatus after releasing it. Makes sense now.

Motivation was cute. I love Waves and Wild Side has not stopped playing on my phone since the release.

Damn. She is extremely insecure about her music. Tbh Motivation is 100x times better than Wild Slide and she should believe more in her self and her music bc she is doing it good but she won't go anywhere if she takes a year to release something

Her voice is so soothing to listen to.

Overcoming doubt is a part of the creative process and the texture of greatness. I applaud Normani for being transparent. For those of y’all who seem a bit perplexed just remember that even the boldest and fiercest among us still have doubts— our power is in the fact that we do it anyways! Why romanticize this idea of being 100% ‘fearless’? The messy truth of courage in the face of fear is so much more powerful.

Watching this interview really cemented my vibe with her. I'm sure every artist feels this way with their work and putting it out.

I wrote a story just for fun. I wasn't planning on doing it then I said fuck it. It's my most popular and gained me followers and readers.

As artists, you just make and enjoy the journey of the process. Do your best and let go. People will vibe with what they are aligned at that point.

But why didn't she want to release it tho ? Like, everything about it was a bop.
