It's not the first time a PIA crew forgets to lower the LG. Decades ago PIA flight 300, a 747, made a belly landing for the same reason, although that time they didn't go around and had a happy ending. You can see the recreation of this flight in my channel, it's in Spanish tho.

I mentioned from the very beginning this is exactly what must have happened. I was right and my poor cousin died. Beyond incompetence. This was stupidity and arrogance in one package.

If he'd just shut it down everyone would have walked away... instead the pilot chose to try and cover his ass at the cost of 98 lives.
On one of my first flying lessons my instructor said, "It's better to look stupid than to look dead". Excellent point.

After the plane got aloft again I wonder if the passengers were thankful they survived and hopeful of a better outcome on the next landing attempt. Very sad indeed.😞
